A Winter Day By Jaira Rael

During the holidays, one might ask themselves, what can I do on this frosty day? The students at Sandia have a few suggestions. There are many Traditions that a variety of families do during the holidays. Some families may celebrate Christmas, while others may celebrate Hanukkah, etc. What are some holiday favorites? What is there to do during the holidays in Albuquerque, New Mexico?

Activities Out and About!

If you are one to be out and about during the holidays there are a plethora of activities to do in Albuquerque. The River of Lights, which is a walkthrough of colorful and fun light fixtures, will be open from November 25 to December 30, other than December 24 and 25. The location of the River of Lights is at the ABQ Biopark Botanic Garden. Tickets can be bought online. Another beautiful sight would be the Christmas tree in Uptown. “This year the tree has 174 branches, 520 ornaments, and 2,500 bulbs,” by KRQE News. Exploring around the city is very fun but you might get thirsty every once in a while. ``My favorite drink is the Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino from Starbucks,”  from Lora Parker. If you would rather stay inside, there are many things to do in the comfort of your home.

Staying Cozy Indoors

opportunity to decorate with their families. Whether it be the interior or exterior it's always fun to decorate with your loved ones. Multiple Sandia students said, “A tradition that I love to do is set up my Christmas tree with my family.” Another activity that one can do inside would be arts and crafts. You can make gingerbread houses or even just paper snowflakes! Baking Christmas cookies for Santa or baking in general with your family is a very common tradition for Sandia students. “Baking with my mom during the holidays is one of my favorite things to do,” stated Hayden Frederich.  If you are looking for something less messy than watching Christmas movies could be entertaining for a while. “My top 3 favorite Christmas movies are The Polar Express, Home Alone, and my all-time favorite A Christmas Story,” said Hayden Frederich. Last but not least present making! Wrapping gifts or making gifts is a fun way to spend your holidays. “I love gift-giving during the holidays,” said Lora Parker. Making a gift or gift giving comes from the kindness of your heart. It is an item given to someone without the expectation of payment or anything in return. Enjoy your winter break Matadors!
