Highschool is the starting step for setting up your work ethic and to really measure your success. There's no telling what job or career you're going to pursue. It sets up a structure for balancing life and school, like a future job. It's meant to help you choose your future whether you're going to college, or not. The school provides plenty of resources to help you.
When you are getting old enough to start a job, you probably won't have a very good choice of where you work. Until you really find something you're passionate about, you might not like your career. This is why it's so important to start career exploration early. When you can identify your interests and put them into work, it'll make life much easier. Joining clubs or organizations, for instance, can help develop valuable skills and make your interests more known and proficient.
In career, there are countless opportunities and paths you can take and explore. The purpose for exploration in jobs is so you can identify your interests, values and skills to help you with your goals. On Sandia’s website, we have different types of career exploration such as surveys and project hires.
All of our counselors at Sandia are here to help you make decisions about your career. They help guide you through the range of career possibilities, whether or not it's college, community college, trade school, or even just a normal nine to five. This can involve school career fairs or guest speakers. When you have an adult that helps you weigh the pros and cons of different options, it helps you make well informed decisions for your future. Linda Cage says that ¨Exploring careers isn't just about finding a job, but finding your purpose.¨
