High school summer school programs offer valuable opportunities for students to catch up on their credits, make progress or explore different advanced subjects. Summer school provides structure and a supportive environment for achieving your finished credit.
The 2024 high school summer credit recovery programs are available to APS students in grades nine through 12. Registration must be completed through each student's school counselor. This year's locations for credit recovery include Albuquerque High School, Eldorado High School, West Mesa High School and Volcano Vista High School. They are all the traditional way, being in person. In addition to summer-school options, they offer virtual school: eCADEMY High School. This gives students the chance to kind of decide their environment to earn credits.
For students who are struggling or seeking to maximize their potential, going to summer school can help them in the long-run until they eventually reach their full potential. Aliah Garcia, sophomore at Albuquerque High, says, “Last year after I failed algebra in a semester, I was worried I might get left behind. But last year's online recovery credit helped me make it up. It went by pretty fast and I'm glad I don't have to do it now.”
Many people are switching to online classes. Based on a poll taken at Sandia, three out of five students said they'd rather do online summer school. Sandia freshman Neveah Sandoval states that, “Online classes seem so much better than in person. I'm able to finish credits without giving up my whole summer, at my own pace!” It just proves that you choose what is effective for you and what you can manage and stay on track with.
