The annual State Conference in New Mexico is a significant event that brings together middle and high school student councils, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration among the youth. "State Conference is a big get-together with all the middle schools and high schools around New Mexico with different student councils” a student in senate states. "It's important to really see what you can get involved in and to see how we as students really make a difference in our school.” One of the most enriching aspects of the State Conference is the opportunity it provides for students to network and step out of their comfort zones. "The best part of the State Conference is really getting to connect with others and getting out of your comfort zone," remarked the same senate student.
This year's senate has 17 members and 4 officers representing their schools, winning 6 trophies. Highlights of the event included the roll call and the presentation of scrapbooks. "Something that really worked well was the roll call and the scrapbooks. Those ended up coming out amazing," says the senate student. Even with the successes, there's always room for growth. The conference has sparked a desire to see more student involvement. "Something to improve, I think, is more people wanting to join senate and go to conferences like these," the senate student explains, hoping to inspire more students to take part in future events. The State Conference continues to be a cornerstone for student engagement and leadership development across New Mexico.
