ALBUQUERQUE, NM-There are many genres of music to listen to. Which is the most common genre of music at Sandia High School?
There are many programs for music at Sandia, but they take the place as one of your electives. If you do not want it to take place of an elective, zero hour and after school could also be an option for you. The categories of music are Performing Arts: Instrumental, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Steel Ensemble, Orchestra, Performing Arts: Vocal Music and AP Music theory.
At most sports games or assemblies the band performs for the team. They conduct different music, not just to keep the teams playing confidently, but also to help students and parents. And they are not the only ones creating melodies; our student section, cheerleaders and dancers are always making chants.
Evolution
How did we get to the place we are right now with music? The evolution of music has changed with time. Music has been influenced by a variety of cultures, technologies and societal changes. Each type of music has brought unique styles and innovations whether it’s ancient folk music or modern rap. Music has shaped our world and is still so inspiring to artists nowadays.

Starting off 2024 some of the most popular artists to listen to would be Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Drake, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, and BTS. All of these artists have a massive fan following. However you can never forget the most widely recognized and influential music artists, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Madonna, Elvis Presley, and Beyoncé. These artists have left a great impact on the music industry and pop culture. There are a few rising stars to come in the music industry as well, some might recognize Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, and The Kid LAROI.
Music is utilized very often in our daily lives. It is also a constantly evolving phenomenon that shows values, beliefs and interests of a society at a particular point in time. It serves as a mirror to society, reflecting our collective experiences, aspirations, and concerns. Music is a dynamic and ever-changing landscape caused by society, economics and technological shifts. It will be exciting to see how pop culture continues to evolve and impact the lives of many.
