The end of year can become tiring and you may lose your motivation. That's when your performance might slip. Nyah Saiz claims ¨It makes me lose interest in a lot of things and not want to finish any homework. I try to stay on the bright side of things but it doesn’t always help.¨ If you have been keeping up with your work and studying, chances are that your grades will show. As the year progresses, it's common to feel a dip in motivation. You might be tired, burnt out or just ready for summer break. The key is to find ways to stay motivated despite the end of the year slump. Many students start messing around toward the end of the year and let their grades slip. For some students the end of the year can do the opposite and give them motivation. Sandia student, Maddie Bird, states ¨The end of the year affects my motivation in a positive way. It's close to the end of the year, may as well end good.¨
There are things you can do to help you with that final push during school. Finding support from friends, family or teachers can help keep you on track. Instead of looking at everything you have to do, break it into smaller tasks to make things easier and set up rewards for when you finish a task. For example, when you finish studying, treat yourself to some ice cream. It is all about the little things. Finding new study habits can be helpful in showing you how to make the time go faster. Bird claims ¨In order for me to not feel burnt out, I try to find new study habits. Finding new study habits pushes me to adapt to new things which makes time feel like it's going faster.¨ You can make a list of things you have to do to show you things you have completed. Get moving! Exercise increases your mood and can help you focus better. Ask for help when you need it from teachers, friends, and family. They are all here to help, Remind yourself why you are doing this. Sometimes you need to take a minute to remind yourself why you are trying whether it's for your future career, college, or even just for personal pride.
