There are many spirit weeks during a school year. Whether you dress up for one or participate in something else, The power of Spirit Week inspires the students! This month, for Halloween, Sandia celebrated Fall with many activities. From wearing the color of leaves, coming in costume, twinning with a friend, or showing some country cheer in your flannels. Many supported their teams and friends when they wore their jerseys on Friday. Fall spirit week was a blast!
The spirit activity for Monday, Oct. 30, was fall colors, with Freshmen wearing red, Sophomores wearing orange, Juniors wearing Purple, Seniors wearing black, and staff showing up in yellow. On Halloween students and staff came dressed up in their Halloween costumes. Wednesday, Nov. first was twin day. People arrived color-coordinating with friends, identical hairstyles, and mirrors reflecting each other. Thursday, Nov. second represented Flannel day. With a majority of students showing up with PJ pants and a small percentage wearing Flannel & plaid shirts or jackets. To end the week, Jersey Day was held on Friday, Nov. Third.
The Senate is a big part of why Sandia is so important. The Senate works hard to make sure the kids have a fun time at school. Anouk Montoya, a student in the Senate, gave a dive into how the senate kids are able to pull off a spirit week She said, “Each class is in charge of a different spirit week. And this one was kinda last minute because we didn't know which class was in charge of it so we let the senior class just do it” They got recommendations and then voted for the days. Montoya also said “The spirit week days were made simple and basic so everyone would participate” Stating “Anytime we do something fun no one does it.” A sophomore, Nyah Saiz, believes “Senate did good but should’ve advertised it better.” Saiz also said, “It was fun. It was pretty good and the decor was cute and the Halloween costume thing was pretty fun.” Another senate student Savannah Garcia's goal is “To make sure we participate in spreading the spirit to the other students.”
Overall, most people found the Fall Spirit Week a success, and we can all thank the senate kids for their hard work.
