SANDIA HIGH SCHOOL — It was another great Friday night lights game for the Sandia Matadors (6-1) who took on the visiting Eldorado Eagles (3-5) this past Friday, Oct. 6 at Wilson Stadium.
Continuing with momentum from their so far three-game win streak stemming from their wins against Manzano, West Mesa, and now, Eldorado, the Matadors demonstrated their exemplary teamwork and adaptation during the second half of this past Friday’s game against Eldorado.
While playing against the highest-scoring offense in high school 6A football, there were multiple key plays that led Sandia to the win. From two fumble recoveries leading to touchdowns to Joey Harris’ 15-yard touchdown pass from QB Cruz Rivera the Matadors truly showed their skills of adaptation.
Running an impressive 92-yard touchdown for the Matadors, Grayson Frederich spoke about the importance of adaptation throughout the game for the team, he said: “We adjusted at half-time, we played a bad first-half … we were able to adjust how we were running the ball and how we were throwing it … the defense was able to play a really good game and it allowed us to win.” Due to these opportunities, the Matadors would be able to score a combined 26 points in the second half resulting in the win over the Eagles with a final score of 33-14. Moving forward to this Friday,
Oct. 13, Sandia has a home conference game against the Farmington Scorpions taking place at Wilson Stadium with kickoff at 7 p.m. Currently, Farmington has a 71% win rate with an overall record of 5-2 scoring on average, compared to Sandia’s 85% rate and overall record of 6-1 according to MaxPreps.
