March 7 was a big day for the Sandia High School Girls Tennis Team, as they got to compete in their first match at Jerry Cline Tennis and Recreation Center. They won against Cibola with the final score of 6-3 and they swept their doubles. Caris Quiñonez, Astrid Quiñonez, and Olivia Lebrón from the tennis team said the team performed great for the first match. In preparation for this match Astrid Quiñonez says, ¨We practice after school Monday through Friday for about 2 hours and we started practices about 4 weeks before the match.¨
Bianca Quiñonez states, ¨My favorite part of the Cibola game was playing doubles under the lights with my sister and all of both teams were watching since it was the last match. This was my favorite part because it was a good match and it was really loud.¨ Lebrón stated, ¨My favorite part of the game is getting my emotions out because if I’m mad or something I can use it to play better.¨ Caris Quiñonez says, ¨I’ve been playing tennis for my whole life and I love the game. I also have some of my favorite friends on the team and it's a fun environment.¨
Most of the Tennis team members have been playing for many years and they all have different inspiration that help that keep them motivated, Caris Quiñonez, Astrid Quiñonez, and Olivia Lebrón all say the team helps inspire them and that the team makes the game fun. Bianca Quiñonez and Astrid Quiñonez say that possibly competing in tennis in their future helps inspire them. One thing they all have in common is that they are a part of the team to have fun. Astrid Quiñonez believes, ¨We have a really great team this year and a good chance at making state.¨ Overall, The Girls Sandia Tennis Team worked hard and had fun while taking the win from Cibola.
