As the high school football regular season draws to a close, along with the official release of the 2023 Nusenda Credit Union State Football Championships bracket by the New Mexico Activities Association, football fans are reaching their peak anticipation for this champions
hip series. With several teams displaying exceptional skill and resilience, the path to the final showdown promises to be an exciting one.
In the first round, dominant teams like Cleveland, La Cueva, Sandia, and Centennial secured coveted bye weeks, granting them an early advantage in the race to the championship. Their well-deserved rest will surely fuel their determination as they prepare to face tough opponents in the upcoming quarterfinals.
Sandia, with their strong performance throughout the regular season, remains a team to watch closely. Having earned a bye week in the first round, they h
ave exhibited their strength on the field, leaving fans eager to see how they will play in the quarterfinals round. With an impressive regular season record of 8 wins and 2 losses, Sandia stands poised to make a strong statement in the upcoming matches.
Looking ahead to the quarter finals, Sandia will face off against the Rio Rancho Rams stemming from the Rams’ win against the West Mesa Mustangs. As fans eagerly await Sandia's next move, the team remains focused and determined to make their mark in the championship series.
While being interviewed about the upcoming quarter finals round of this championship series, Varsity Defensive Back Juanito Cruz said, “Everybody is just going 100% now and I feel like that is just what we have to do in order to play at the championship level … but I think the biggest thing has just been our mentality, not letting anyone get over us, not talking smack to anybody, just playing our game the best way we could and I think we’ve done that this season.”
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on the competitors as they compete for a coveted spot in the highly anticipated championship match. With the stakes this high, only the most resilient and skilled teams will have the chance to clinch the 2023 Nusenda Credit Union Football State Championship.
