As the much-anticipated boy's basketball season approaches, the Sandia Matadors are gearing up for an exciting season opener on November 29 against Cibola High Schools. Fans across campus are excited as players get ready to hit the court as they defend their title as reigning district champions. Last season, the varsity basketball team set the bar high with a record of 26-6, earning them an impressive 81% win rate according to MaxPreps.
The 21-game varsity schedule promises matchups against schools across New Mexico. With opponents including schools like Los Lunas, Piedra Vista, Farmington,
Cleveland, Rio Rancho, and of course opponents within Albuquerque Public Schools. Undoubtedly, all teams will bring their best game possible making every game a must-watch for basketball fans. As the team prepares for the upcoming challenges with tryouts taking place earlier this week, the coaching staff undoubtedly emphasizes the importance of discipline, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
