Burnout is a serious issue that can affect anyone. In order to prevent burnout, it's important to prioritize self care and find a healthy balance between school, work, and personal life. Taking breaks, getting enough rest, and engaging in activities you enjoy can help recharge your battery. Setting realistic goals, managing your time effectively, and seeking support from friends, family, or professionals can also make a big difference. Burnout can have a significant impact on students. Students can get burn out for a variety of reasons. One common factor is the pressure to excel academically and meet high expectations. The workload can be overwhelming, especially when combined with extracurricular activities and part time jobs. The constant need to juggle multiple responsibilities can leave little time for relaxation and self care. It's important for students to find a healthy balance and prioritize their well-being. Remember, taking breaks and seeking support are essential in preventing burnout! Students can experience burnout at different times throughout the year, but some common periods include midterms, finals, and the end of the semester. These times often come with increased workload, deadlines, and academic pressure. However, burnout can also occur during other busy periods or when students are consistently overwhelmed by their responsibilities.

Students at Sandia Highschool feel the effects of burnout. Freshman Derek Ramsey says, “A burnout causes me to lose energy and feel exhausted about myself.” with Lilly Pierce adding,“It affects my life because it stresses me out, causing me to not want to do much more work than needed.” Pierce states that when she is feeling the effects of being overworked she sleeps or sits in her room. The main cause for both of their burnout is the workload causing stress. Ramsey describes burnout as, “ being exhausted and tired to the point you can't continue.” Pierce says,“being burned out to me mean that I can't work, relax, or have fun because I'm too busy thinking about things that stress me out more”

You can tell if you're burnt out by paying attention to these warning signs; feeling exhausted all the time, lacking motivation or interest in things you used to enjoy, having trouble concentrating, experiencing physical symptoms like headaches or stomach aches, and feeling irritable or easily overwhelmed. If you notice these signs, it's important to take a step back, prioritize self care, and seek support if needed.
